The Weirdest Met Gala Looks of All Time

The Met Gala is a great event for fashion lovers. You never have to worry about being overdressed, and it’s a great opportunity to wear the wildest fashion creations ever. Yes, we see some elegant and beautiful dresses here too, but let’s be honest, we all look forward to the wild card. Who’s going to dress as a cat, a chandelier, or wear something that’s a sneeze away from a wardrobe malfunction? That’s the best part of the Met Gala: the fun of it, the creativity, and the fact that your “too much” gene is going to feel right at home here. So, let’s take a look at some of the weirdest Met Gala looks of all time.

1. Beyoncé, 2026

It seems like Beyoncé barely needs to glance at the theme of the Met Gala to go, “Yup, we’re doing diamonds and crystals.” So, of course, she wore an Olivier Rousteing skeleton-inspired, crystal-covered dress with a long and dramatic cape that served as a dress train. She accessorized with a Chopard necklace and an elaborate headpiece, because who’s Queen B without some sort of crown? All in all, the whole ensemble was worth $50 million, and we wouldn’t expect anything else from Beyoncé. She looked stunning.

2. Katy Perry, 2026

Katy Perry loves to look like she’s part of a pop art exhibition, but this time, we’ve got to admit it was a classy one. Her dress was very elegant, but it was the mask/headpiece that got all the attention. It’s hard to tell if it made her look like a faceless robot or like she was wearing a kitchen utensil, but hey, we’re here for the weird look!

3. Sarah Paulson, 2026

Sarah Paulson wore a grandiose grey Matières Fécales gown and also leaned into the theme of covering her eyes with what looked like a dollar bill mask. You’d think seeing was important when climbing those stairs, but at the Met Gala, you commit to the look, safety and comfort be damned. We do wonder if she could see through it, or if her assistant had to constantly whisper instructions to her as if she were landing a plane.

4. Luke Evans, 2026

Menswear can sometimes be quite boring at the Met Gala because too many men just wear a suit and call it a day. But not Luke Evans. He went with a full leather look by Palomo Spain, with the hat by Vivas Carrión. The hypermasculine look was unusual and quite a contrast, but boy, was it memorable.

5. Rachel Zegler, 2026

Rachel Zegler wore a beautiful white off-the-shoulder Atelier Prabal Gurung dress paired with a blindfold, because, as we’ve mentioned before, seeing at the Met Gala is overrated. Her whole look was inspired by Paul Delaroche’s painting The Execution of Lady Jane Grey, and honestly, it was a great painting come to life. But it wasn’t the dress that got most of the attention, but Rachel’s strange jaw movements as she paused for the photographers.

6. Bad Bunny, 2026

Bad Bunny wore a custom-made tuxedo with a pussy-bow detail that referenced Charles James’s 1947 “Bustle” gown. But it was Benito who underwent the biggest transformation. He arrived in full prosthetics as a much older version of himself, complete with wrinkles, age spots, and a cane. The transformation was incredible, theatrical, and slightly unsettling in its realism. So, you know, perfect for the Met Gala.

7. Kim Kardashian, 2026

Kim loves to put in the effort and get attention at the Met Gala, and this year was no exception. This time, she wore a tangerine-colored molded breastplate made of fiberglass, created by British pop artist Allen Jones. She paired it with a matching open-front leather skirt and wore her hair blonde and tousled. The orange color was a nod to the artist’s usual color palette.

8. Amelia Gray Hamlin, 2025

In 2025, Amelia Gray Hamlin wore a custom Valentino by Alessandro Michele look. It was a red lace bodysuit with matching red stockings, a cropped jacket, a long dramatic train, and a headpiece. A picture of her in this outfit wouldn’t be amiss in a dictionary next to the word “risqué.”

9. Gwendoline Christie, 2024

We love this 2024 look Gwendoline chose for the Met Gala. The outfit was very dramatic, with a red velvet gown and a black cape, but her hair looked like it was styled by a thunderstorm, and honestly, we live for the drama. She looked like a gothic aristocrat, part movie villain, and it was glorious.

10. Fredrik Robertsson, 2022

Fredrik Robertsson confused so many people on the Met Gala red carpet in 2022; many people mistook him for Jared Leto. And while we see the similarities with the eyeliner and intense cheekbones, we think he dressed way better than Jared does. He wore a custom Iris van Herpen jumpsuit that was made from digitally printed upcycled fabric, recycled Mylar, and laser-cut feather-like panels. He looked like a gorgeous and potentially dangerous alien mixed with a poisonous deep-sea creature. Apparently, it took 750 hours to create this work of art, and it looked like it was worth every single minute.

11. Grimes, 2021

In 2021, Grimes also wore an Iris van Herpen look inspired by “Dune.” It featured a metal face mask, elf-like ears, and a sword, of course. We always knew swords were cool, but we just weren’t aware you could take weapons to the Met. She looked like a futuristic warrior princess, and we’re here for it.
