Game of Thrones Prequel and Spin-off Series

HBO’s Game of Thrones series brought millions of people together. Every week we were glued to the screens, trying to figure out what kind of a sick twist George RR Martin would pull off this time. GoT had a good run, at one point even becoming “the most pirated show” ever (now that title belongs to the Mandolorian, by the way), but all things must come to an end. And what an end it was. Some liked it; others couldn’t stand it, but we all want to see more adventures in that world.

Thankfully, HBO has got our back and plans to make more shows set in Westeros and beyond. Let’s see what\s on the menu for the future of Game of Thrones!

“The Tales of Dunk and Egg”

Based on George Martin’s novel of the same name, this future show/movie will take place in the same fictional world as “A Song of Ice and Fire,” but its events will unravel almost a century before Jon Snow was even born.

The main character is the Lord Commander of the Royal Guard, Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk), and his squire, Prince Aegon Targaryen (Egg). HBO has yet to reveal any details about the series. In fact, it’s not even 100% confirmed at this point, but judging from the original content, we’re in for a treat.

Untitled Animated GoT series

HBO Max is always eager to expand the Game of Thrones universe and is currently developing an  animated series for mature audience based on George Martin’s book series. Just like with “Dunk and Egg,” so far, everything is in the very early stages. The producers are looking for potential screenwriters to discuss the idea of a future show. But we hope to see some dragons there at the very least!

The Winds of Winter

We all remember the poorly-executed final season of Game of Thrones, but it failed mainly because GRRM hasn’t even finished the story yet, so the producers of the show only had so much to work with. The series “A Song of Ice and Fire” has two more books to go—The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring.

Rumor has it that HBO is planning to cash in on the book hype by making a more canonical alternate version of the finale. All we need now is for Martin to finish those books.

House of the Dragon

Last year we got the bad news about the Game of Thrones prequel with Naomi Watts getting dropped by HBO. But at the same time, they announced there had been a new prequel in development for several years – House of the Dragon.

It was the first idea Martin had pitched to HBO when they asked for more. From the title alone, we know that the series will cover the civil war inside the House of Targaryen, which took place hundreds of years before the events of Game of Thrones. At least we know that the production should start in 2021.
