In 2021, rumors began to spread about the changes to Zac Efron’s face after a video went viral. People began to wonder if Efron had undergone some sort of plastic surgery on his face. These inquiries were even more persistent after he made an appearance on Bill Nye’s “Earth Day Musical,” and people were specifically concerned about his chin.

Efron took some time during a 2022 interview to respond to the rumors. He said that the plastic surgery speculations were not accurate, and that the change in his chin appearance is actually because of a prior chin injury that he had in 2013. He revealed that he did not want to bring much attention to the incident, but that he sustained a severe break to his jaw after slipping and falling on a granite fountain.

After the injury, which occurred around the same time that he sustained several other injuries, he started physical therapy. But because he did not complete it as he should have, his facial muscles began to change – leading to changes in his facial appearance.

One of the other physical changes that sparked a lot of intrigue from his fans is when he transformed for the role he played in the film Dallas. He discussed at the film premiere how much effort he had to put into the role. “The physicality he brought to the ring every single day was unique. It changed wrestling,” Efron said. “I knew that was going to be the hardest thing for me to master and get right. So, I put everything I had into it.”

He was even more strict with his diet when preparing for his role in Iron Claw, even more so than his diet for Baywatch. He mentioned that he had to go beyond just mainly being vegan because it wasn’t doing well with his body. So he switched to intermittent fasting, and worked back into lean proteins. His regimen involved cardio in the morning, breakfast at 11 a.m. with bone broth, elk or chicken, and veggies. He would then have dinner, which would consist of a protein and sweet potatoes or quinoa. He worked in organ meats as well, like liver with onions.

Efron was effective in his efforts, as he was able to put on 10 pounds of lean muscle in an astoundingly short amount of time, only 12 weeks. His super-ripped muscles were all that the media was reporting on for some time. One of his co-stars even commented on how well Zac was able to put on muscle for the role, even exceeding what anyone anticipated his transformation would look like. “He’s so annoying. I’ve been training for months, putting in all this effort, and then I see Zac and think, ’Why do I even bother?’” he said.
