Christmas is right around the corner, and that means it’s time to get into the holly, jolly spirit. Decorating does the trick, and so does baking cookies or cooking your favorite holiday dishes. But another tradition for many during the holidays is watching Christmas movies. There are not many other festive activities that bring the family together like all joining together with snacks and hot chocolate to watch some classic holiday movies. It doesn’t get any better than this classic film. Home Alone was released decades ago, but still brings on the nostalgia of our favorite little guy who was left home alone for Christmas. Who doesn’t love a good story of cool pranks, a kid who stands up to mean grown-ups, and some good old-fashioned slap comedy?
A Christmas Carol
This classic by Charles Dickens has been recreated many times. It has been made into The Muppet Christmas Carol, Disney’s A Christmas Carol, and Scrooged, an 80’s rendition that starred Bill Murray.
Love Actually
This romantic comedy is not necessarily considered a classic, but is a light-hearted story of how messy and beautiful love can be, amidst the backdrop of the holidays. It has a great cast of stars and is definitely a good watch.
Polar Express
Polar Express is a wonderful family-friendly movie that really fosters in the spirit of Christmas. This film really captures the wonder and imagination of Christmas from a kid’s perspective, and honestly represents the kind of fantastical Christmas experience we all probably fantasized about during our childhood.
Gremlins
If you’re into the horror scene, and like your Christmas with a little spook on the side, Gremlins is the movie for you. This creepy film about a pet gone wrong will have you on the edge of your seat – and will make you think twice about gifting your kids a pet for Christmas.
A Christmas Story
No Christmas movie list would be complete without the cult classic A Christmas Story. This off kilter Christmas comedy has earned its place in holiday tradition as a classic and tragically funny story about the family underdog – one that we all can’t help but adore and root for.
Elf
Any comedy with Will Ferrell is sure to be hilarious, and Elf does not disappoint. The joy of Christmas is all over this film, and it is sure to bring laughs and good-hearted joy to your family on movie night.
It’s a Wonderful Life
Another story of an underdog that you so desperately want to win, It’s A Wonderful Life is a Christmas classic that no holiday season is complete without. This black and white film brings back all the nostalgia and glamour of old Hollywood, and has a beautiful storyline that is sure to have the whole family with a twinkle (and tears) in their eyes.
Miracle on 34th Street
This classic film is another black and white movie that will pull on your heartstrings. Miracle on 34th Street is a lovely story that will make even the biggest scrooge believe in the power and magic of Christmas.
