The GTA VI trailer got over 100 million views in just the first 24 hours and broke many Internet records. Like with other GTA trailers, Rockstar Games decided not to reinvent the bicycle. It showed the fans a trailer full of social satire, dark humor, and, of course, references to the most bizarre real-world events fresh out of Florida.
Let’s figure out some of the coolest references the developers have snuck into the GTA VI trailer!
1. Alligator in The Pool
This video on a local social network is a nearly identical recreation of a scene from a report about alligators in Florida swimming pools. Based on the caption, it’s highly likely that this will be an actual job within the game in the near future.
2. Parody Brands
In GTA V, there were parody brands that were received well by the players. It seems like the developers have decided to continue with this concept in the sequel. In the latest trailer, the main female character is seen wearing Sessanta Novae – the GTA’s knock-off brand of Louis Vuitton.
3. Florida Joker
The game’s trailer features an excerpt from a news report about a guy rocking ink on his face and how one of his neck tattoos helped to identify him. This is another faithful recreation of a real-life event that happened in Florida: a man who looks like the Joker is arrested for brandishing a gun.
4. Florida Trumpist
In one clip from what appears to be GTA’s version of TikTok, an elderly man can be seen chilling on a yacht with many hot girls. There is an American flag on the bow of his vessel. One can assume that these shots are a reference to a viral video of Trumpists from Florida doing a yacht run.
5. Alligator in The Store
This CCTV footage of an alligator walking inside a store in Florida to get some cold beer is also a typical Floridian interaction, the only exception being that the real reptile invaded a Walmart instead of a small gas station convenience store.
6. Twerking on The Roof of A Car
In another clip from the local TikTok, we see a black girl twerking on top of a moving car. You probably won’t be surprised at this point, but this actually happened in Miami about six years ago.
7. Ghost Riding
Rockstar highlighted another messed up TikTok trend in the trailer – Ghost Riding. The driver leaves the driver’s seat and climbs onto the roof or door, leaving the car to drive on its own. In recent years, many have died or caused accidents on the roads when attempting this really dangerous and incredibly dumb stunt for the likes.
8. Local Bike Club
A local news station in Vice City recently reported on a bike club that is causing chaos with its races. It is common in Florida to see police chasing individuals driving motorcycles and ATVs through the streets. It is likely that the game will also feature similar races and activities.
9. Streaker at A Gas Station
Another meme event was a naked man running from the cops in Canada. A similar scene was added to the Rockstar trailer, slightly changing the background but keeping the vertical video style.
10. Karen
And the final reference on the list is another blink-and-you-miss-it video of an aggressive middle-aged lady dual-wielding hammers. In California, a woman named Karen was caught on camera holding two hammers and threatening to smash her neighbor’s car. This incident has given rise to the “Karen phenomenon,” which refers to aggressive white women who use their privilege to demand things they don’t deserve.
