The city of Provo in the lovely state of Utah was struck with a never-before-felt dread when its streets were made unsafe by someone known only as the Fish Bandit. This person spent most of the nights taping huge fish at ATM machines and sharing pictures of his deeds on social media. You can imagine people were a bit upset to have a fish staring them directly in the eye when they wanted to get a quick cash withdrawal.

After a somewhat embarrassingly long search for the culprit, he was finally identified and apprehended. As you’d expect from a story like this, the Fish Taper was a teenage boy with too much free time on his hands. After his apprehension, he was charged with property damage charges.

And yes, that makes no sense, because they could just rip off the tape and throw the fish in the garbage without actually damaging the ATMs. I suppose they had to find something to pin on him so he wouldn’t go scot-free after having terrorized the community so.

We have no idea why the 17-year-old decided to go down in the history books by taping fish to ATM machines and posting the videos on the internet, but we can say that the infamous Fish Bandit has gone international.

There’s videos on his Instagram page where fish got taped to ATMs far outside the regular Provo area, going as far as Tokyo, Frankfurt, and a handful of other cities around the globe. The fish used ranged from carps to trouts and even bass and catfish. Even for such a simple concept, the young man sure went the extra mile to avoid doing the same thing twice.
