We all grow up believing we’re unique human beings and our parents go through great lengths to allow us to develop this uniqueness fully. Most of us never have to deal with a severe physical uniqueness which would make us susceptible to being bullied and insecure, however.
This Brazilian kid named Enzo was born with a huge birth mark on his face that’s pretty much impossible to hide. And his mom, being an absolute boss, decided she’d turn this seemingly negative thing into something that makes her son unique, beautiful and empowered.
The mom, named Carolina Giraldelli, was surely surprised when she found out her kid was born with a birthmark that covered half his face. Congenital melanocytic naevi, they call it.
Thankfully, a later surgery confirmed that the birthmark was harmless and now the only thing left to do was show her son that he’s perfect just the way he is. And there’s only one real way to do that: you paint that exact same birthmark on your own face and show your son that he’s not alone. So that’s exactly what Carolina did.
She decided that her son probably wouldn’t have the easiest life because of his birthmark and she had to become stronger and more fearless for him, so she could be there when he has to face his obstacles in life.
She got a professional makeup artist to recreate the birthmark on her own face and Enzo’s reaction was one of complete joy when he saw his mom walk in the room with the exact same birthmark he had.
Through wearing the same birthmark as her son for the full day, she got some experience with the prejudice her son will face at a later point in life. She didn’t mind doing it at all, though. Despite doing something that most people would consider ugly, Carolina felt like the most beautiful woman in the world when she had her son’s birthmark on her face.
You could search this planet high and low but I doubt you’ll find many people that are willing to go to such lengths to make their kid feel good about a genetic defect. We hope Carolina and Enzo get to stand together for many, many decades to come and they both get the happiness they deserve and want for each other!
