ABC’s Castle ran for eight seasons and gave fans plenty of crazy murder mysteries, real romance, nerdy banter, and a will-they-won’t-they partnership between bestselling author Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic). The show wrapped in 2016, leaving fans wondering what happened to the cast after the precinct doors closed.

Let’s see what the wonderful cast members have been doing since then!
1. Penny Johnson Jerald—Captain Victoria “Iron” Gates
Victoria Gates is strict, skeptical, and absolutely not amused by Castle’s “consultant” status. Not at first, at least. Penny Johnson Jerald took that whole “boss” vibe and used it in The Orville as Dr. Claire Finn for three seasons, then reunited with Seth MacFarlane in the comedy series Ted. She also dove into voice acting for Disney’s 2019 The Lion King and 2024’s Mufasa: The Lion King, and the rough and tough Amanda Waller, the ARGUS boss, in Justice League: Gods and Monsters.

2. Jon Huertas—Javier “Javi” Esposito
Esposito’s sarcastic one-liners and banter with Castle were some of the best in the show. Jon Huertas successfully incorporated his grounded charm into This Is Us, contributing significantly to the show’s emotional impact as Miguel. But he didn’t stop at acting, either. Huertas stepped behind the camera to direct some episodes of This Is Us, as well as The Rookie and Tracker. He also sprinkled in fun guest appearances in Elementary, Con Man, and even a Rookie episode opposite his old buddy, Nate Fillion.

3. Tamala Jones—Dr. Lanie Parish
After Castle, Tamala Jones kept stacking roles in shows like SEAL Team, L.A.’s Finest, and a season 1–4 run on 9-1-1: Lone Star as Detective Sarina Washington, giving her a chance to work the badge from a new angle. She also starred in the legal drama Rebel as a private investigator, and showed up on The Rookie for a mini-Castleverse moment. Aside from TV roles, Jones also starred in the thriller Deadly Dispatch, the warm-and-fuzzy holiday picks The Holiday Stocking and Netflix’s Holiday Rush, and the true-story drama Ordinary Angels with Hilary Swank.

4. Seamus Dever—Kevin Ryan
The “new guy,” Kevin Ryan, is earnest, thoughtful, and always game for a wicked pun. After Castle ended, Seamus got guest spots on NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: Hawai’i, MacGyver, and Tracker. He even dove into the DC pool as Trigon in Titans, proving he can do “sinister demon dad” as easily as “boyish detective.” Dever’s also reunited with familiar faces on The Rookie. Offscreen, he’s been busy behind the mic, voicing characters in video games like Far Cry 5 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

5. Molly C. Quinn—Alexis Castle
Alexis was Castle‘s moral compass, his sparring partner, and occasionally his partner in crime-solving. Molly C. Quinn has since woven her way through two Marvel flicks (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Vol. 3 as a Ravager named Molly), the horror sequel Doctor Sleep, the indie chiller Agnes, and the crime drama Last Rampage. She also appears in Mike Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck (the one with Tom Hiddleston playing Chuck) and briefly popped up in Flanagan’s TV anthology The Fall of the House of Usher. On TV, Quinn added guest roles in The Fix and The InBetween, plus a double visit to The Rookie (Seasons 3 and 5) as Ashley.

6. Susan Sullivan—Martha Rodgers
Every great detective needs a dash of theatrical chaos at home, and Susan Sullivan’s Martha delivered that and much more with gusto. Post-Castle, Sullivan kept it classy with recurring roles in The Kominsky Method and Last Man Standing, plus voice work as Fred’s mom in Big Hero 6: The Series. She has made appearances in full-feature films such as The Amaranth, The Grotto, and the indie comedy The Drop, seamlessly transitioning into the role of the “unflappable matriarch”.

7. Stana Katic—Kate Beckett
Kate Beckett was the edge to Castle‘s soft chaos. Stana Katic’s post-Castle path has been delightfully eclectic. She stepped into the “boots” of Wonder Woman, voicing the character in Justice Society: World War II, Justice League: Warworld, and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths. On the live-action side, she delivered a phenomenal performance in The Possession of Hannah Grace, then slipped back into cloak-and-dagger territory with A Call to Spy.
Her biggest TV swing was probably Absentia, a series where she plays Emily Byrne, an FBI agent who vanished while hunting a serial killer and is presumed dead until she isn’t. The series is moody and mysterious, providing Katic with the emotional depth that Beckett fans adore.

8. Nathan Fillion—Richard Castle
Finally, the man himself—Rick Castle. Nathan Fillion nailed the lovable-rogue energy of a guy who could pull an obscure clue from a pulp novel and charm his way past a crime scene barrier. After leaving Castle, Fillion made a bold move into Hollywood! On TV, he confidently portrayed Rainer Shine in Modern Family and transformed into a delightfully bizarre zombie in Santa Clarita Diet. Then came a new badge, The Rookie, where he portrays John Nolan, the LAPD’s late-in-life freshman cop, navigating training, tactics, and the joy of discovering your knees still work after a foot chase. But that’s not all. His voice has been featured in numerous productions, ranging from DC’s Green Lantern to Pixar’s Cars, among others. Moreover, Fillion continued to interact with major franchises, making appearances in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and sharing his wisdom in Deadpool & Wolverine. Of course, let’s not forget his most recent showstopper as Guy Gardner in Superman and Peacemaker season 2. Castle might be his most iconic sleuth, but Fillion’s real superpower is staying booked and beloved.
