Back in the day, Buffy the Vampire Slayer wasn’t just about staking vamps—it was one of the hottest shows on TV in all possible aspects. Airing on the WB, it had everything from dark, gothic mistresses dressed in black leather to the sizzling chemistry between Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz. From day one, Buffy was pushing boundaries, and as the show matured, so did its steamy scenes.
Looking back, some of these moments were far from “healthy” portrayals of romance, but wow, did they deliver. Let’s dive into the top six steamiest Buffy moments!
1. Faith in Buffy’s Body & Spike—“Who Are You?” (S4, Ep16)
After some plot shenanigans, Faith ends up in Buffy’s body. Faith adorns herself with seductive makeup and dons a black leather outfit, creating a captivating scene in and of itself. But wait, there’s more! The scene continues, and we see Faith in Bronze dancing with several men and women until she runs into Spike. Once she realizes who he is, Faith starts to tease Spike, telling him all the things she could do to his body. This shows that you don’t need to reveal everything to create an alluring scene.
2. Giles & Joyce—“Band Candy” (S3, Ep6)
In this classic episode, all the adults in Sunnydale regress into their teenage selves—including Giles (Anthony Head), who reverts to his rebellious “Ripper” phase. And guess what? He and Joyce (Kristine Sutherland) hook up. We never see the action, but we later learn they did it twice—on a police car. Naughty-naughty!
3. Buffy & Angel—“Amends” (S3, Ep10)
If you’re a Bangel fan, this episode is likely one of your all-time favorites—if not, then seriously, what are you even doing with your life? In Amends, Buffy and Angel’s heartbreaking love story keeps them apart physically, but that’s exactly why dream sequences exist! The way their sleeping scenes are intercut only makes their connection even more intense. Sometimes, the anticipation and build-up are just as sizzling as the actual moment itself.
4. Buffy & Riley—“The ‘I’ in Team” (S4, Ep13)
Despite Riley (Marc Blucas) being the weakest of Buffy’s boyfriends, this scene leaves a lasting impression! Footage of Buffy and Riley fighting demons splices their first encounter, making it feel raw and exhilarating. The intensity and the chemistry actually make Riley worth tolerating. It’s not as good as what’s to follow but not as horrible as some other scenes.
5. Willow & Kennedy—“Touched” (S7, Ep20)
It’s interesting how Kennedy, of all characters, ended up being part of one of Buffy’s most heated scenes. Many see it as a landmark moment for representation on network TV. Either way, it was a game-changing moment and undeniably intense.
6. Buffy & Spike—“Smashed” (S6, Ep9)
And here it is—the undeniable hottest scene in Buffy’s history, where Buffy and Spike take their fiery tension to an entirely new level, quite literally bringing down a house in the process. It’s raw, chaotic, and exactly what fans had been waiting for since Spike first stormed into Sunnydale in Season 2. Sorry, Angel, you just couldn’t compete. This one’s for all the Spuffy stans!
