It’s hard to believe we made it through 2020. That in itself is an achievement. Although we spent most of the year indoors, it didn’t bring the world of fashion to a halt. People have been very creative with their fashion choices, at least because now going outside seemed like a big deal and you wanted to pick a good outfit to make it count. However, the pandemic is far from being over, and we don’t know what 2021 will bring. But we all have a secret weapon now. While in 2020 we were lost and panicking at first, 2021 is going to be different. We’re used to it, we kind of know what to do and how to deal. So here are some trends for 2021.
1. Stylish Face Masks
It’s a must at this point. We know there were a few interesting choices in 2021 for facemasks, but most of them were kind of ridiculous. Now we know how they should look, we know how many layers they should have and how to wear them (please tell us you know how to wear it, we’re sick of seeing noses). So we predict a lot of very useful but also very stylish facemasks in 2020. Making them the stylish focal point, or making them match your dress – a facemask is a must.
2. Chelsea Boots
Listen, combats boots were all the rage last year, but now we’re all about convenience. You can’t deny that Chelsea boots are just easier to put on and take off. They’re just as cool looking, but there’s no lacing required. And many brands are coming out with interesting designs and colors, so look out for that.
3. Printed Puffers
Puffers are a winter essential, and in the past years, we treated them just like that. Something we don’t want but we need it to stay warm. Well, 2021 is all about making your puffer a fashion statement, be it with bright colors, color blocking or fun prints and patterns.
4. Extra Embellishments For Occasions
We missed out on so many special occasions in 2020, but this year we’re hoping to make up for that. And even if we have to host some of those online, we will now be prepared with a special embellished dress with floral details, sequins, or any other extra embellishments. Think strawberry dress, but even more extra. Princess gowns, puffy sleeves, the works.
5. Checkered Print
We’re not quite sure how this happened but checkered print never really went out of style and it looks like it’s going to be super popular in 2020. And if that checkered print can be made unique in any way and stand out even more – that’s even better. What’s even more on-trend is checkerboard print. You can thank The Queen’s Gambit for that.
6. Sweatsuits
Comfort is everything, it has been in 2020 and it will continue to be so in 2021. We’re embracing the sweatsuits, except say goodbye to boring grey ones and say hello to fun, colourful, perhaps even patterned ones. Sweatsuits with fun prints will be huge in 2021. We have even seen some luxury sweatpants by Tom Ford. So, embrace that comfortable elastic waistband while it lasts.
7. Knitted Sets
Cosy knit and crochet sets are everywhere. We’re not sure if everyone just decided to learn how to knit while on quarantine, but it’s a trend. All sorts of sets are available online and people are going crazy for them. And big brands are jumping on this bandwagon. When you think about it – it’s the ultimate kind of outfit, stylish yet comfy as heck.
8. Power Clashing
We’re pretty sure this is a direct consequence of how we feel lately. We’re bombarded with information all the time, our brains are all jumbled and we can’t just pick one thing. Plus, we’re bored and stuck at home, so we want something bright and colorful in our life. That’s where chaotic clashing prints come in handy. It’s the new trend and 2021 will be full of it.
