Photos Taken Right Before Disaster Struck

Some pictures seem like they’re not very special at the moment that you take them, but end up being the last thing someone sees before disaster strikes. It somehow turns this mundane picture into something that becomes iconic and transcends time for future generations to enjoy. While the more recent variants focus on “right before someone falls on their face,” we’ll be discussing actual disaster moments in this context. Let’s dive in.

Pretty Condemning Evidence

In what was intended to be a random New Year’s family photo, this man managed to capture a picture of the person who was about to assassinate him, just moments before he pulled the trigger. Reynaldo Dagsa, a Philippine politician, was the victim and photographer.

The RMS Titanic

This final picture captures the Titanic’s departure on its first and final voyage. We are all aware of the fate of the Titanic, thanks to the renowned movie and its status as one of the most significant ship disasters in history.

MH17

This was the last picture taken by anyone on flight MH17 right before it crashed at the Ukrainian border, following what was still one of the weirdest attacks on a commercial airplane in history.

Right Before A Bear Attack

Ten years ago, Darsh Patel captured this picture while hiking. The bear in the picture ended up mauling Darsh to death only moments later, making this a very eerie picture to look at. Police later found his phone with a bite mark in it and were able to lift this photo from it.

Watching World War I Start

The assassination of Franz Ferdinand (the Australian archduke, not the band) was the event that directly led to World War I. This picture captures the archduke moments before his assassination, initiating the events that would culminate in one of the most brutal wars Europe (and possibly the world) has ever witnessed.

Titanic, Again

Approximately a year ago, a group of wealthy individuals made the decision to dive into the Titanic wreck using a submersible named Titan (yes, it’s quite unique). This lady documented the submarine’s departure on her TikTok account, capturing the final footage of the Titan submarine before it submerged and imploded, resulting in the deaths of all those inside.

Challenge Probably Not Accepted

This picture shows the crew of the Challenger Space Shuttle, just minutes before they were about to launch. The looks on their faces show you that they had absolutely no idea that a mere 73 seconds into the flight, the Shuttle would break apart and disintegrate above the Atlantic.

The Last Tsar of Russia

We captured yet another image prior to an assassination, but this time it was several months ago. This is Tsesarevich Alexei Nikolaevich’s last known picture as he was heading to the Russian Soviet Republic. Upon arrival there, he’d be imprisoned and killed months later.
