Katie Micucci, a comedian and actress, has become a fan favorite for her role on the popular series Big Bang Theory. Many people love her as Lucy on the iconic show, but were shocked when she recently shared some insight into her personal journey. Micucci revealed a heartbreaking update on her health that came as quite a surprise.
Recently, Micucci has been facing a health challenge that many fans did not know about. She revealed that she was diagnosed with lung cancer. The Big Bang Theory star has been open about these health struggles and has been sharing updates with her fans on social media.
The 43-year-old took to TikTok to reveal her diagnosis, and that she had been spending considerable time in the hospital for a surgical procedure related to her health condition.
“Hey everybody, this is not a TikTok, it’s a ‘Sick Tok. I’m in the hospital, but it’s because I had lung cancer surgery yesterday. They caught it really early,” she told her fans on TikTok.
She opened up about her reaction to being diagnosed and described why it came as a surprise to her, as she has never smoked cigarettes. “It’s really weird because I’ve never smoked a cigarette in my life, so uh, you know, it was a surprise,” Micucci said.
What she seemed to be happy about was that they have a good prognosis for her moving forward, and it is an early stage of lung cancer. “But also, I guess, also, it happens, and so the greatest news is they caught it early, they got it out, I’m all good.”
In the post, Micucci is even more transparent with her fans about her struggles and journey by sharing a video of her during treatment. She is walking and pushing her IV drip down the hallway hospital. What is inspirational about the video is that she is still moving and pushing forward, and even gives the camera a cheery thumbs up.
In the video, she even says, “Whoo hoo, I gotta say the artwork here is pretty nice.”
In regards to her progress after the surgery, Micucci has a positive outlook that is truly admirable. “It’s been a little bit of a trip, and I’ll probably be moving slowly for a few weeks, but then I’ll be back at it.” She went on to say that she is expecting to be painting again very soon, which is one of her favorite hobbies to enjoy.
Many people commented on her post, sending well wishes and positive messages for her healing, one of them being fellow comedian Tom Green. He said, “Get well soon best wishes and good luck with your recovery.” Other people said, “I’m glad they caught it in time. Get well soon,” and “Hope u r doing better 2x lung cancer survivor here. 14 years and still going.”
Another user commented with an inquiry about how she found out, and wondered what symptoms she had that led her to find out about her diagnoses. She revealed the process to getting her diagnosis, which was actually not exactly a direct path. “I had one thing in my bloodwork that came back really high. So I went to a preventative doctor who did a few scans. He scanned my heart, and that’s where the spot in my lung was noticed.”
It is great news that Micucci is in a good state for a healthy recovery. She is not the only actress who went public with their battle against cancer. Sex in the City Star Cynthia Nixon, who played the role of Miranda, was fighting cancer while working a full Broadway show. She completed six and a half weeks of radiation treatment, and is thankfully now free of cancer.
