I don’t know about you but I just love zombie movies. From Dawn of the Dead to Shaun of the Dead, I’ve watched them all. I probably will never get tired of re-watching the first 3 seasons of The Walking Dead (let’s be honest, no matter how much you love the series, starting with season 4, the show just went down the drain). But have you ever thought about why people are so obsessed with this whole zombie thing? I think the whole concept of the zombie apocalypse plays on our deep fears of disease and physical inability to fight for ourselves. And apart from being constantly hungry for our flash, there’s so much more to the living dead that most of us just keep missing.
So, if you are a zombie apocalypse believer or just love zombie movies, here’s a look at some of the most interesting facts you didn’t know about zombies.
1. The readers were first introduced to zombies by William Seabrook in his book “The Magic Island” where he talked about the culture and traditions of Haiti and the Voodoo ritual that implied raising the dead.
2. The grandfather of all zombie movies is “White Zombie” (1932). However, zombies in this movie are a bit different from the ones we are used to seeing on the screen today.
3. The late filmmaker and screenwriter George Romero is called a “godfather of zombies” for a reason. He was the one who basically created the zombie genre with his cult movie “The Night Of The Living Dead” that has been influencing and inspiring generations of zombie movie makers since then.
4. October, 5th is the World Zombie Day. And May 1 – May 31 has been declared a Zombie Awareness Month.
