After Humans of New York took off and became viral there were hundreds of Instagram accounts trying to imitate the original and failing. They were all doing the same thing, and nobody really likes an imitator. Everyone prefers the original.
That’s why the creator behind @subwayhands did what all good artists do – they took a good idea and gave it their own, unique little twist.
These incredible pictures of hands on the subway each tell their own, unique story. No captions required.
All Leopard Print Everything
I’m not one to judge (too much), but if you’re going to do leopard print on any of your clothing you have to be absolutely, 100% sure that you’re capable of pulling it off. This person not only manages to pull off leopard print, but they go all in on the style. The coat, the bag, and even the ring – they all match. If I absolutely had to guess, I would guess that the shoes also (somehow) include some leopard print.
I admire (and am a little bit jealous of) the confidence of this person.
I’m a 6-foot dude, and every subway I’ve been on is a bit too high for me to be able to reach the ceiling like that. But this leather-jacketed man has no trouble walking around placing his hands all over the ceiling like he’s Spider-Man or something.
I like this one because it’s subtle. The ring signifies the woman is married. The watch is a nice classic shape. The bracelets are thin, classy, and unassuming. The nails have a nice manicure, but no nail polish. This person knows the value of keeping things simple, and it shows.
Leopard print is challenging and requires a lot of confidence, but matching red and green really stands out. This person is not only confident, but they also (probably) like people to pay attention to them. But not in a flashy way. No, they keep it classy. Leather gloves, nice bag, long umbrella… And then there’s the spikes on the gloves to send a clear signal that there is a lot of attitude and coolness behind the flashy outfit!
