Spoiler alert! The films are made to make us feel emotions and live through the life of the characters on the screen. While the drama itself keeps you watching, the ending is what actually releases the emotions. Check out the list of the greatest endings that will make you cry.
Green Mile (1999)
Witnessing death every day is not very easy especially when you realize that some of the convicts on death row are actually innocent. John’s death on the electric chair leaves us crying in pure grief as we feel what it is like to be free from the pain of the world.
Marley & Me (2008)
Films about animals are usually happy and so enjoyable – Marley & Me ticks all the boxes. Still the ending leaves us with a bittersweet feeling as Marley was a great part of this family and his mischievous behaviour was a joy to behold. As the family pays their respects to their favorite dog we just try to hold it together.
The Fault in Our Stars (2014)
The story which seems to be very predictable from the beginning has an unexpected twist with the death of Augustus. While he was the one in remission, the cancer returned and left Hazel in ruin. The saddest moment is when Hazel receives a final letter with Augustus’s eulogy for Hazel.
As the story itself is very romantic and makes us wish for a happy ever after ending, it is not meant to be. The tragic death of Jack made us weep (and created a lot of memes), everyone imagined how life will go on for Rose. The final scene where Rose is back on Titanic and is greeted by Jack gives us the real feelings.
Million Dollar Baby (2004)
As far as sports films go, this one starts very strong promising us a grand finale, however, the drama part kicks in and it is impossible to hold our tears back. Maggie’s fatal injury is the first thing that shocks the viewer but her death is what leaves us sobbing.
Dead Poets Society (1989)
Dead Poets Society has inspired thousands to pursue their dreams and stand for what they believe in, nevertheless, it also showed us how support is important in anyone’s life. While Neil’s death is a dramatic event itself, Keating’s dismissal and tribute by his students is what really breaks our hearts.
Hachi: A Dog’s Tale (2009)
The film based on the true story of a dog waiting for his owner even after his death. While in itself the professor’s death is very dramatic, seeing his beloved dog waiting for his master every single day in the same spot just breaks your heart. As the dog ages and becomes weaker it becomes clear that his time has come. The scene when Hachi is united with his owner will leave anyone in tears.
The film about an asteroid which is about to destroy Earth is meant to be sad. However, the ending will make anyone cry as the father decided to sacrifice himself instead of his future son-in-law. The goodbye that he says to his daughter is when you just can’t stop crying as we know she will never see him again.
This cartoon makes you shed tears when you watch the short story of Carl and Ellie’s life and her sad death. If that’s not enough, the ending makes us cry again when Carl gives Russel the badge given to him by Ellie when they first met. Such sentiment fulfils the end of the trip for the old man as he keeps his promise to his wife.
