We all have our favorite movies to watch in the lead up to Christmas. Some of us do a Die Hard marathon (no judgment here) and others prefer to watch sweet wholesome family-friendly movies. But honestly, no one can say no to a good Christmas comedy and that’s exactly what we prepared for you today.
1. Home Alone
Every Christmas movie list should start with Home Alone. If it doesn’t – it’s not legit. Don’t look at me like that, I don’t make up the rules, I just follow them. But seriously, Home Alone is the best Christmas movie out there. We all have pleasant childhood memories associated with it. Who doesn’t want to watch little Kevin, forgotten at home while his family leaves for vacation, having to protect his house from burglars? You know you kind of wish that happened to you, just so you could boobie-trap the house like Kevin did.
2. Home Alone 2
Yup, you guessed it, Home Alone 2 is the second movie on the list. Because again, dems the rules. Who else could convince you that being lost in New York around Christmas and having to face the same crooks who now have an actual reason to hate you could be this much fun. I mean, how does little Kevin McCallister have such bad luck yet is such a genius when it comes to coming up with hilarious traps?
3. Christmas With The Kranks
If you haven’t seen it for some reason, do yourself a favor and check out this 2004 masterpiece. It’s good old slapstick comedy, with a side of wholesome family values and a lot of funny scenes that will keep the whole family entertained. I mean what’s more Christmassy than a couple that chooses to swear off Christmas and go on a cruise?
4. Love Actually
It’s hard to believe this movie came out in 2003. On one hand, it still feels like a new movie, something that’s still fresh and relevant but at the same time, it’s definitely a Christmas classic at this point. And don’t be put off by people who say it’s a rom-com. There’s plenty of truly hilarious moments in this movie and if you don’t remember them – it’s a good reason to rewatch this gem of a movie. And the ensemble cast is to die for, seriously don’t even get me started, it has everyone. All together now: “ I feel it in my fingers, I feel it in my toes…”
5. Mean Girls
Ok, so perhaps you don’t think of Mean Girls as a strictly Christmas movie, but I’m choosing to put it on the list since it does have that Jingle Bell Rock scene in it. It’s hilarious, it’s iconic, it’s so quotable. It will make you laugh, no matter the season, and we all need a good stress relief movie in the lead up to Christmas.
Is anyone surprised by this choice? Elf is another classic. There’s just nothing better than watching Will Farell behave like the weirdest elf man child you’ll ever see. Plus, way too many of us relate to that scene where he goes “so good news, I saw a dog today”.
Bill Murray is a living legend and it would honestly be almost illegal to omit this incredible Christmas movie from the list. It’s weird, it’s quirky, it’s definitely funny and it’s most certainly a very Bill Murray takes on a classic Dickens story.
8. Bridget Jones Diary
A Christmas movie marathon must. It’s witty, it’s festive, it’s got Colin Firth and Hugh Grant in it. Not to mention Renee Zellweger chugging wine and singing along to Celine Dion in red pajamas. That’s basically the recipe for a funny, charming yet hilarious film. What else could you possibly want?
