When we see a movie villain we rarely think about who’s hiding beneath all those layers of makeup and prosthetics. The scarier the villain, the more we focus on the frightening visuals, not even paying attention to the actor playing the character. Believe it or not, but underneath those frightening blue skins, horns, hoods, and crooked noses hide real beauties. Here are 10 frightening movie villains who look gorgeous in real life.
Lord Voldemort (Harry Potter)
We have to start with the classics because Ralph Fiennes is such a handsome guy and the character of Lord Voldemort is so repulsive that you can’t even tell how beautiful he is underneath all that. Did you know the actor wanted to turn down the role of He Who Should Not Be Named? Yep, we should all thank his sis, who convinced him otherwise.
Calypso (Pirates of the Caribbean)
Naomi Harris is a London-born actress who looks simply stunning in real life. Yet it’s hard to see the beautiful actress behind the ancient dreadlocks, inky mouth, and bluish lips of Calypso, the witch. Before each filming Naomi Harris had to take a mouthful of vegetable paint to create the impression she was oozing darkness.
The Night King (Game of Thrones)
Meet Vladimir Furdik, a handsome man you never knew was hiding behind the White Walker’s character. The man is so charming in real life! According to Kit Harington, it was a nightmare to turn into the Night Kind and other monsters as it took around 6 hours to get all the prosthetics done. The TV show didn’t want to rely on CGI and made its monsters truly believable.
Captain Phasma (The Force Awakens)
Gwendoline Christie is such a spectacular woman! Yet we have very little opportunities to appreciate her beauty on screen as most of the time she’s hiding underneath some armour. First it was the knight’s armour in Game of Thrones, and then things escalated and she got totally hidden from the viewers in The Force Awakens. We loved Captain Phasma and we’re hoping to see more of her.
Doctor Poison (Wonder Woman)
Latest instalment of Wonder Woman delivered on so many levels. Apart from stunning super heroine played by Gal Gadot we were also introduced to the equally gorgeous Elena Anaya playing the character of Doctor Poison. Yet you can’t tell how beautiful she is because her face is disfigured in the movie.
Ronan the Accuser (Guardians of the Galaxy)
That blue skin and burning eyes would fool anyone, especially a viewer who is waiting to see a monster. Not many people realise, though, that all that blueness was masking the beauty of none other than Lee Pace, the striking Thranduil from the Hobbit trilogy. He must have spent hours in the makeup chair to get the look!
Looking at the Predator it’s hard to imagine there’s an actual human being inside that monstrous form. Yet it’s true! Brian Prince may not be popular yet, but he’s done an incredible job with the character, using his parkour skills to the fullest. He just submitted the video of him doing stunts to the film’s stunt coordinator and the next day he was in!
The Red Queen (Alice in Wonderland)
Helena Bonham Carter is always such a treat for the eyes – the actress looks stunning both on screen and in real life. But more often than not her movie characters are somehow disguised or disfigured, hiding all that natural beauty from the viewers’ eyes. We loved her as Bellatrix Lestrange in Harry Potter, but she looks most weird and wicked playing the character of the Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland.
Pennywise has been giving nightmares to both kids and adults for years now, ever since the first It movie graced the big screens. The new clown looks even madder and scarier, but behind all that crazy acting is the sweet personality and handsome face of none other than Bill Skarsgård. The actor admitted that he had to get deep into the role despite some of the kids getting genuinely scared on set.
Azog the Defiler (Hobbit)
Did you ever even think to look behind the horrifying prosthetics of Hobbit’s Azog? Probably not. But if you did, you’d find Manu Bennett to be strikingly handsome and looking 100% human. Looking at him now it’s impossible to say he was in the movie – makeup artists made him unrecognizable!
