Elon Musk and musician Grimes haven’t been dating all that long, but maybe time flies differently for genius businessmen and eccentric musicians? Just two years ago they took Met Gala 2018 by surprise appearing as a couple, and have been dating ever since.
Their relationship hasn’t been all rainbows and unicorns, to say the least, but the two have stayed together and last February Claire Boucher, better known by her stage name Grimes, announced she was pregnant. Here we are nine months later, exactly two years into the relationship, with the most unusual baby name we have ever heard.
Just like many modern celebs, Elon Musk and Grimes love Twitter. In fact, the two even met there! Over a certain Rokoko Basilisk joke that only tech geeks, eccentric musicians, and talented businessmen would understand. Things took off from there and they have started seeing each other in real life, too.
It wasn’t until March that Grimes admitted that the father of her child was, indeed, Elon Musk. Proud father acknowledged the pregnancy much later, making a post on Twitter when she was about to give birth to their son.
Twitter was also the source of info about the newborn. One curious fan directly asked Elon Musk about the baby’s name and received a puzzling answer: “X Æ A-12 Musk” The baby boy’s name has been kept a secret for some time, and now we understand why. A few more weeks passed before Grimes went on Twitter again to comment on the name, giving a full explanation to millions of confused fans. It turns out “X” in the baby’s name stands for ‘’the unknown variable’’, while “Æ” is her very own type of “elven spelling” of “Ai”, which means “love” in Japanese and also happens to stand for Artificial Intelligence. “A-12” is an homage to the couple’s favourite aircraft, the A-12, which was a plane used for reconnaissance. It was fast, absolutely non-violent, yet crucial on the battlefield. Grimes added that “A” also stands for “Archangel”, but has nothing to do with actual angels – it’s the title of her favourite song. The explanation was truly informative and fans were grateful for it, but Grimes never mentioned how to actually pronounce the name! It still remains a mystery.
